Sky CEO Dana Strong Advocates for Thoughtful AI Regulation Amid Technological Advancements

In a compelling discussion at the Deloitte and Enders Analysis Media & Telecoms 2025 & Beyond Conference in London, Dana Strong, CEO of Sky, emphasized the critical need for well-structured AI policies in light of rapid technological advancements. As part of Comcast’s expansive European pay-TV and telecom operations, Strong’s insights shed light on the transformative role of AI within the organization.

“We are thinking about AI as a cultural movement inside the organization,” Strong articulated, discussing Sky’s intent to harness AI as an “amplification” of human effort. This vision includes fostering a “Dragon’s Den of AI,” promoting creativity and innovation among employees. By leveraging AI extensively in advertising and utilizing it as a foundational tool in show creation—such as language translation and post-production—Sky is positioning itself in the early stages of a technological evolution.

However, with innovation comes responsibility. Strong voiced significant concerns regarding copyright protection, particularly around a proposed U.K. opt-out rule that would allow AI companies to utilize copyrighted works without permission unless the holder opts out. “It’s very hard to put the genie back in the bottle, so we need to get it right now,” she cautioned, reflecting a broader truth found in Proverbs 22:3: “The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty.”

As Sky navigates these challenges, the implications rippling through the media landscape cannot be ignored. With Warner Bros. Discovery planning to debut HBO Max in the U.K. in 2026, discussions about future content collaborations remain a priority. Despite uncertainties, Strong remains hopeful, citing a recent surge in the volume of sports coverage available to viewers, which has increased by 50% in just one year.

She highlighted innovative approaches to delivering sports content: “We’re able to do 100 streams simultaneously,” marking a significant shift from traditional media consumption patterns. This adaptability is reminiscent of Jesus’ teaching on resilience and faithfulness in our pursuits, urging individuals to be wise stewards of their resources and opportunities.

Reflecting on the shifting landscape in advertising, Strong noted the increasing importance of automation and localized marketing campaigns, signaling a departure from traditional television-led strategies. This evolution, aligned with biblical principles of adaptability and stewardship, encourages us to foster a spirit of innovation amid change.

As Sky embarks on this journey, the message becomes clear: embracing technological change with wisdom can lead to profound advancements that enrich our experiences. Consequently, the broader takeaway invites us to reflect on our ability to adapt and innovate while remaining grounded in our core values. In a rapidly changing world, may we strive to balance progress with thoughtful consideration, guided by principles of integrity and community.

In moments of change, let us remember James 1:5: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
