Owensboro to Host Free Mental Health Resource Fair on May 16

In a significant initiative aimed at promoting mental wellness, LEAP Services will host a free Mental Health Resource Fair on May 16 in Owensboro, Kentucky. This event, part of Mental Health Awareness Month, seeks to unite community organizations, support professionals, and local leaders in fostering awareness while reducing the stigma surrounding mental health.

Scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to noon at LEAP Services, located at 1858 Triplett Street, the fair is an opportunity for individuals and families to connect with mental health professionals and explore a wealth of local wellness and support resources.

Participating organizations include Owensboro Health, RiverValley Behavioral Health, Audubon Area Community Care Clinic, The Center, GRADD, United Way of the Ohio Valley, Opportunity Center, Welcome House, Spero Health, New Beginnings Sexual Assault Support Services, and numerous others dedicated to mental wellness.

A highlight of the event will be a special video message from the Governor’s Office, addressing Kentucky’s ongoing mental health crisis. Adding to the day’s significance, the City of Owensboro has officially declared May 16 as Mental Health Awareness Day. Local officials will also speak about the importance of collaboration and expanding access to mental health resources.

“Here at LEAP Services, we believe that open dialogue is the first step toward healing and understanding,” stated Teresa Thomas of LEAP Services. “This event is about creating a safe environment where people feel seen, heard, and supported. By coming together as a community, we can help reduce stigma and encourage individuals to seek the help they deserve."

Reflecting on the spirit of the event, it’s worth considering the biblical principle found in Galatians 6:2: “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Just as communities are called to support each other, the mental health fair embodies this principle by creating a space for individuals to gather, share experiences, and seek guidance.

With a focus on bridging the gaps in mental health care, LEAP Services aims to strengthen community support systems throughout the region. Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend this free and open event, where they can discover valuable resources and build connections with others.

As we engage with the topic of mental health, it’s essential to remember that seeking help is not a sign of weakness but a courageous step toward healing. The fair embodies the notion that through community support, we can collectively heal and support one another.

Take this opportunity to reflect on how your own contributions can uplift those around you while embracing the love and understanding advocated throughout the scriptures. Join LEAP Services on May 16 and become a part of nurturing a supportive environment for mental wellness—because together, we can make a difference.

Q&A about

How can a mental health resource fair help my family or church community?
A mental health resource fair can provide essential information and support for families and church communities, helping to break the stigma surrounding mental health issues. Through the encouraging words of Philippians 4:6-7, we are reminded not to be anxious, but to present our concerns to God, allowing His peace to guard our hearts. Such events foster awareness and create a supportive, loving environment where healing can begin.

Are there any Christian perspectives on seeking help for mental health issues?
Yes, seeking help for mental health is encouraged within the Christian faith. James 1:5 invites us to ask God for wisdom, which can manifest through professional support and counseling. Recognizing our need for help can be a way to embrace God’s guidance and healing for our minds and spirits.

How should I approach mental health topics with my children in a faith-based way?
Approaching mental health topics with your children can be done with openness and compassion, emphasizing God’s love and understanding. By sharing stories of Jesus’ compassion for the weary and burdened in Matthew 11:28-30, you can teach them that it’s okay to seek rest and support in difficult times. Encouraging dialogue can strengthen their trust in God and in you.

What role does prayer play in dealing with mental health challenges?
Prayer is a powerful tool for dealing with mental health challenges, as it connects us directly with God’s strength and guidance. In 1 Peter 5:7, we are encouraged to cast all our anxieties on Him because He cares for us. Through prayer, we can find comfort and clarity amidst our struggles, reminding us that we are never alone in our battles.
