ServiceNow Raises Revenue Forecast Amid Rising Demand for AI Software
By Jaspreet Singh
July 22 (Reuters) — ServiceNow has announced an upward revision to its forecast for annual subscription revenue, marking the second time this year the company has made such an adjustment. This comes on the heels of exceeding revenue and profit estimates for the second quarter, driven by the burgeoning demand for its AI-powered software solutions.
In response to the news, shares of ServiceNow surged nearly 4% in after-hours trading. This development has alleviated some investor concerns amid an industry-wide climate of uncertainty, often referred to as a "SaaSpocalypse." This term encapsulates the anxieties surrounding software-as-a-service companies in light of emerging AI capabilities from innovators like OpenAI and Anthropic.
ServiceNow continues to broaden its AI agent portfolio across various domains, including IT and customer service, facilitating automation of intricate workflows for enterprise clients. Despite these positive advancements, the company’s stock has experienced a decline of approximately 38% so far this year.
Earlier this year, ServiceNow launched Otto—a cutting-edge AI experience designed to manage employee requests and execute complex cross-department workflows. The company has also enhanced its capabilities through the acquisition of cybersecurity startup Armis and AI startup Moveworks.
CEO Bill McDermott shared an optimistic outlook, stating that he has not observed any changes to sales cycles amidst increased hardware and AI spending. ServiceNow’s AI platform is seeing widespread application across the public sector, with nearly all 50 U.S. states leveraging it to enhance citizen services and modernize operational frameworks. The company has now crossed $1 billion in annual contract value related to its AI offerings.
CFO Gina Mastantuono noted that the outperformance in the second quarter was significantly driven by federal clients, although some revenue was pulled forward from future quarters.
Looking ahead, ServiceNow has adjusted its projection for 2026 subscription revenue, now estimating between $15.760 billion and $15.780 billion—up from its previous forecast of $15.735 billion to $15.775 billion. The second-quarter subscription revenue reached $3.88 billion, along with an adjusted profit per share of 90 cents, surpassing analysts’ average estimates.
However, the company’s forecast for third-quarter subscription revenue fell slightly short, projected to be between $3.975 billion and $3.980 billion, below the analyst consensus of around $4 billion. Notably, ServiceNow’s remaining performance obligations, or contract revenue expected to be recognized within the next 12 months, rose 21% year-over-year to reach $13.20 billion as of June 30.
In reflecting on this remarkable growth amidst challenges, one can draw inspiration from Proverbs 15:22: "Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers, they succeed." This ancient wisdom underscores the importance of collaboration and foresight—principles that are equally vital in today’s fast-evolving technological landscape.
As we observe ServiceNow’s journey, it invites us to consider the broader themes of resilience, guidance, and collective wisdom. In our own lives, let us seek counsel and wisdom in our endeavors, encouraging each other to strive and adapt amidst uncertainties.
Takeaway: Just as ServiceNow navigates the complexities of the market, we too can find strength in community and guidance, fostering growth and innovation in our personal and professional paths.
