American Hero Rescues Bald Eagle, Reflecting Courage and Compassion
LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. – In an extraordinary display of valor, 69-year-old Doug Hay risked his life to save a bald eagle, America’s national bird, from drowning in a lake near his home. The incident, which occurred on April 19, serves as a vivid reminder of the lengths individuals go to protect our natural world and embodies the Christian virtues of love and sacrifice.
Hay and his wife were investigating a loud splash when they spotted an injured bald eagle struggling in the middle of a 100-yard lake, with another eagle circling overhead, possibly its mate. The scene turned urgent as Hay realized both the eagle’s peril and the potential danger posed by a lurking alligator.
“Seeing the eagle in trouble,” Hay recalled, “there was no hesitation. I had to help.” With courage that echoes biblical teachings, Hay made the brave decision to dive into the water, fully aware of the risks involved. According to the National Eagle Center, while bald eagles can swim, injured birds cannot utilize their wings effectively.
