Devotional: Leading with Love – A Divine Guide to Marriage Leadership
Scripture Reading:
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NIV)
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres."
Reflection:
Marriage is one of the most profound relationships we enter into, blessed by God as a sacred covenant. Yet, it often requires diligent stewardship. As leaders in our marriages, we are called not to dominate or control but to guide with the love that Christ embodied. Leading with love means prioritizing the best interests of our spouses—empowering them, uplifting them, and joining with them in mutual growth.
In 1 Corinthians 13, we are given a model of love that shows us that true leadership in marriage is characterized by patience and kindness. Are we cultivating these virtues in how we engage with our partners daily? Are we allowing love to temper our frustrations and disagreements?
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of marriage and the opportunity to lead with love. Help us to embody the attributes of love that Paul describes in 1 Corinthians 13. Teach us to be patient and kind, to seek unity, and to prioritize the needs of our spouses above our own. When challenges arise, may we respond with grace and understanding. Fill our hearts with Your divine love so that our marriages reflect Your glory and grace. Help us to be leaders who nurture, encourage, and support one another as we grow together in faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Action Step:
Take a moment today to express love and appreciation to your spouse in a tangible way. Perhaps it’s a handwritten note, a moment of quality time, or an act of service. Reflect on how you can lead with love this week by actively demonstrating patience and kindness in your home.
Thought for the Day:
"Love is not just a feeling; it’s a commitment to act in the best interests of one another. Today, I choose to lead my marriage with love."
