Innovative Cooperative Housing Project in Bremen Reflects Principles of Community and Solidarity

Launched in 2019, the KARL cooperative secured its site through a competitive process orchestrated by the City of Bremen. The development, situated in the Hulsberg Quarter near the historic Bremen-Mitte Clinic, is tailored to accommodate a diverse group of inhabitants, ranging from individuals in their thirties to seniors in their seventies, including families with children. This unique blend of demographics promotes intergenerational relationships, echoing the biblical call to be united and supportive of one another. The design features an elongated, four-story structure with communal balconies linking private apartments to shared spaces, fostering interaction among residents. By purchasing the property, the cooperative has successfully removed the apartments from the speculative market.
