Pennsylvania Attorney General Advocates for Refunds in Generic Drug Price-Fixing Case
In a significant move aimed at consumer justice, the Pennsylvania Attorney General has urged residents to check their eligibility for refunds linked to generic drug purchases. This call comes as Pennsylvania joins multiple states in pursuing a $39.1 million settlement with pharmaceutical company Apotex, over allegations of price inflation and anti-competitive practices.
The settlement, alongside a previously announced $10 million agreement with Heritage Pharmaceuticals, reflects ongoing efforts to hold companies accountable for actions that may have unfairly impacted consumers. Currently, the final approval for these settlements is being filed in U.S. District Court in Connecticut.
If you have purchased a generic prescription drug listed over a span from May 2009 to December 2019, you could be eligible for financial restitution. Residents are encouraged to determine their eligibility by calling a toll-free number, emailing the provided address, or visiting the dedicated website.
“This case highlights the commitment to providing high-quality products at affordable prices,” stated Attorney General Michelle Henry. “Unfortunately, these companies engaged in practices that were contrary to this principle, aiming to inflate prices and limit competition. The settlements aim to restore justice for those affected.”
The allegations against Apotex and Heritage center on the manipulation of prices and the reduction of market competition regarding various generic drugs. Both companies have committed to cooperating with ongoing litigation involving around 30 more corporate defendants and 25 individual executives. Additionally, they have agreed to implement changes aimed at ensuring fair competition and adherence to antitrust laws moving forward.
