Devotional: Boundless Love: The Sacred Gift of Sacrifice in Marriage

“Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” – Genesis 2:24 (ESV)
Reflection:
Marriage is often romanticized as a union filled with love, laughter, and companionship. Yet, at its core, marriage is a profound journey that intertwines two lives, requiring each partner to sacrifice personal desires for the sake of the other. This sacred gift of sacrifice serves as a testament to boundless love—a love that mirrors the divine love we receive from God.
In today’s world, the concept of sacrifice can sometimes feel like a burden. However, in the context of marriage, it is more of an opportunity—an invitation to deepen our connection and strengthen our bond. Each act of selflessness, whether big or small, becomes a building block in the fortress of our relationship.
Consider how Jesus exemplified love through sacrifice. His willingness to lay down His life for us (John 15:13) teaches us that love often requires us to put the needs of others before our own. In the same way, as spouses, we are called to recognize the beauty in sacrificing our comforts, preferences, and sometimes even our pride for the sake of our partner.

Remind me that in moments of difficulty, there is grace in giving and receiving, and that each sacrifice I make is a testament to the sacred bond we share.
