Television Stations in Humboldt County Change Ownership: A New Era for Local News

In a notable shift for local broadcasting, Imagicomm has announced the sale of its stations, KIEM and KVIQ, to Marquee Broadcasting, a company recognized for its commitment to serving smaller communities. This transition comes just two years after Imagicomm took over the stations, which produce the beloved "Redwood News" programs and are affiliated with NBC and CBS networks.

For many viewers, the change reflects a broader desire for local engagement in media, echoing a cherished biblical principle: the importance of community and trust. The new owners, Marquee Broadcasting, promote themselves with the slogan “Because Local Matters,” a mantra that aligns with the teachings of Jesus, who emphasized the value of caring for one another and fostering supportive communities.

Marquee Broadcasting, founded by Patricia and Brian Lane, is described as a family-owned and woman-led operation focused on connecting with local audiences. KIEM/KVIQ General Manager Jenny Olszewski expressed optimism about the new ownership, stating her anticipation for opportunities that could arise from a company prioritizing local engagement. “We’re excited about the new ownership opportunities,” she said.

While details of the transaction, including financial figures, have not been disclosed, it positions Marquee Broadcasting as a significant player in enhancing local media’s community-focused approach.
