What Jesus teaches about The Nature of God

Introduction

Welcome to another fulfilling session of our short Bible study! Today, we will be exploring the valuable lessons that Jesus teaches us about the nature of God. This is a subject that has the potential to transform your understanding of God and significantly influence your Christian journey.

As Christians, knowing God is not enough; understanding His nature is paramount. Let’s delve into what Jesus, our perfect example and mirror of God’s character, teaches about God’s nature.

Bible Verse

John 14:9 (NIV) “Jesus answered: Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?”

Meaning

This scripture provides a profound revelation about God’s nature. Jesus asserts that His life, actions, and teachings are perfect reflections of God’s nature. Therefore, studying Jesus provides us with rich insight into who God is.

God, being Spirit, remains invisible to man. However, through Jesus Christ, His incarnated form, we see a complete and accurate representation of His character. This truth is reflected in Hebrews 1:3, where Christ is described as “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being . . .”

God’s nature is filled with love, mercy, forgiveness, justice, holiness, and righteousness, as exemplified by Christ. By studying and embodying the teachings of Jesus, we grasp the nature of God and strive to reflect it in our own lives.

Actions to Take

1. Read and meditate on the life and teachings of Jesus in the Gospels.

2. As you encounter Jesus’ actions and words, consider them as direct revelations of God’s nature.

3. Make a conscious effort to display the attributes of God as reflected in Christ towards others in your daily life.

4. Regularly pray for the Holy Spirit’s help in understanding and embodying the character of God.
