Is Self Love Biblical – Exploring the Balance Between Self Care and Sacrifice | Bible 101 Devotional

In the hustle and bustle of life, it can be easy to get caught up in constantly giving to others and neglecting ourselves. But is self-love biblical? The answer lies in finding a balance between taking care of ourselves and sacrificially serving others.

The Bible makes it clear that we are called to love others as we love ourselves (Mark 12:31). This implies that we should have a healthy sense of self-worth and self-care in order to effectively love others. We cannot pour from an empty cup, so taking care of ourselves is essential in order to have the strength and energy to pour into those around us.

However, the Bible also calls us to sacrificially serve others and put their needs above our own (Philippians 2:3-4). This can sometimes mean sacrificing our own desires or comforts in order to help someone else in need. The key is finding a balance between self-care and sacrifice, recognizing when it is necessary to take care of ourselves and when it is our duty to serve others.

So, is self-love biblical? Yes, as long as it is done in a way that allows us to love and serve others effectively. Let us strive to find that balance in our lives, taking care of ourselves so that we can pour into others and fulfill the call to love our neighbors as ourselves.
