Short Devotional about Money

Introduction

How much weight do we put on money and material possessions? How often do we wish for more, forgetting to enjoy what we already have? In this devotional, we will delve deeper into our attitude towards money, wealth and abundance. We’ll allow the words of scripture to unearth the godly perspective on material wealth and mold our hearts to cherish eternal riches over earthly wealth.

God is not against our prosperity; He just wants us to understand the true meaning of riches and not let money control us. Let us unpack what His Word says and apply these divine lessons to our lives. Let’s unravel the truth together.

Bible Verse

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.” – 1 Timothy 6:10

Meaning

Is money evil? No. However, the love of money has led many to paths of sorrow, greed, jealousy and even crime. 1 Timothy 6:10 warns us about the potential danger of setting our hearts upon money. It’s not the money itself that’s inherently dangerous, but the devotion to money; making it an idol can steer us away from our relationship with God.

This verse reminds us that when we become too attached to wealth or start to desire it above everything else, we begin to lose sight of what truly matters. Our faith takes a back seat and worldly desires move to the front. This ends up becoming a source of pain and grief in our lives. We must always remember that wealth is temporary whereas God’s love for us is eternal.

Actions to Take

  • Practice gratitude for what you have instead of craving more. Let’s learn to be content in all circumstances (Philippians 4:11).
  • Share your wealth with others. Generosity helps us maintain a loose grip on wealth, remembering that it belongs to God.
  • Pray for discernment to keep money and wealth in its proper place in our lives.
  • Engage in activities that bring you closer to God. Keep spiritual riches above material ones.
