Finding Courage in God’s Call: What to Do When We’re Scared

Have you ever felt a nudge, a pull towards something unknown, something bigger than yourself? But then, fear creeps in, whispering doubts and worries. What if God is calling you to take a step that seems overwhelming? How do we respond when we’re scared of what God might ask us to do?

Embracing Uncertainty with Faith

The Bible is filled with stories of individuals who faced daunting tasks and uncertain futures. Yet, time and again, they found courage through their faith.

  • Moses hesitated when asked to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. He feared he wasn’t qualified (Exodus 4:10). However, God reassured him, saying, “I will help you speak and will teach you what to say” (Exodus 4:12).

  • Gideon doubted when called to save Israel from the Midianites. He sought signs from God, struggling with his own fears (Judges 6:15). Yet, God assured, “I will be with you” (Judges 6:16).

These examples remind us that feeling uncertain or scared is human. Yet, God often chooses those who seem least likely to accomplish great feats through faith and reliance on Him.

How to Face Your Fears

Fear of uncertainty is natural, but there are practical ways to confront it with faith:

  1. Pray for Guidance: Open a dialogue with God. Share your fears and seek His guidance. Prayer can be a source of comfort and clarity. “Do not be anxious about anything… present your requests to God” (Philippians 4:6).

  2. Seek Strength in Scripture: The Bible is filled with encouragement. “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind” (2 Timothy 1:7).

  3. Lean on Community: Surround yourself with supportive friends or a faith community. Sharing your journey can provide strength and perspective.

  4. Take Small Steps: Sometimes, taking small, manageable steps can lead to greater trust and courage. Progress, not perfection, is key.

  5. Reflect on Past Victories: Remember times when you overcame challenges with God’s help. This can bolster your faith.

A Personal Reflection

Consider this: What movie or book plot would end well if the protagonist never stepped out in faith? Our lives, too, are stories unfolding.

Courage in God’s Promises

God’s promises offer peace amid uncertainty. The assurance that God is with you can be a powerful motivator. As it says in Isaiah 41:10, “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.”

Conclusion: Step Out in Faith

The journey of faith is about trusting in God even when the path isn’t clear. Your fears are valid, but so is God’s promise to be with you every step of the way.

What do you feel God might be asking you to do in this season of your life? How can you take a small step towards it today? Reflect on this and engage with others by sharing your journey in the comments.
