BoFiNet Completes P100 Million Network Upgrades, Empowering Botswana’s Digital Landscape

In a remarkable leap towards enhancing Botswana’s digital capabilities, Botswana Fibre Networks (BoFiNet) has successfully wrapped up network upgrades valued at over P100 million, awarded to local companies entirely owned by citizens. This initiative not only bolsters the nation’s internet infrastructure but also empowers homegrown Information and Communications Technology (ICT) firms, highlighting the significance of nurturing local talent and capability.

The strategic projects, which further strengthen Botswana’s connectivity to key internet gateways in London and Johannesburg, were entrusted to Hexaract Network Experts (Pty) Ltd and Comsoft (Pty) Ltd, both of which are 100% citizen-owned. In a recent media engagement, the Acting CEO of BoFiNet, Mr. Mpho Koolese, emphasized the company’s commitment to fostering local enterprise within the ICT sector, noting a growth of approximately 70% in citizen contractor partnerships over the last decade.

Koolese stated, “We believe that citizen-owned companies can deliver high-value, high-impact projects. BoFiNet is dedicated not only to providing financial support but also to contributing significantly to the local telecommunications sector through skills development and experience that are essential for building successful businesses.”

This approach mirrors the biblical principle of stewardship and the encouragement to cultivate the gifts and potentials in our communities. Just as the parable of the talents teaches the importance of investing in what has been entrusted to us (Matthew 25:14-30), BoFiNet’s strategy underscores the value of investing in local companies to harness their potential for a collective benefit.

The Customer Experience Director at Hexaract Network Experts, Mr. Thebe Makgetho, expressed deep appreciation for this collaborative effort. He noted, “This partnership has not only fueled our economic growth but has also provided our engineers with advanced training and real-world experience in managing cutting-edge internet infrastructure solutions. These projects are pivotal for both our development and that of Botswana’s digital evolution.”

As the nation strides toward digital advancement, this initiative exemplifies how collaborative efforts rooted in mutual empowerment align with the values of community upliftment and responsible stewardship. The successful partnership between BoFiNet and local firms sends a powerful message about the importance of investing in local capabilities, allowing individuals and communities to thrive.

For readers reflecting on this development, consider the biblical encouragement found in Galatians 6:9: “And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.” This successful collaboration not only yields tangible advancements in the present but also sows seeds for future growth and resilience.

As Botswana embraces this digital revolution, it invites all stakeholders—governments, businesses, and individuals—to recognize the shared responsibility they have in cultivating local talent and infrastructure. Reflecting on one’s role can inspire meaningful contributions that extend beyond mere economic gains, fostering a spirit of collaboration that uplifts entire communities.
