Owl Rescued from Concrete Mixer Declared a ‘Fighter’ by Sanctuary Workers
In an extraordinary story of resilience, a great horned owl found partially encased in concrete after an unfortunate mishap in southwestern Utah is on the path to recovery. Animal sanctuary workers at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab described the bird as a true "fighter."
The remarkable rescue unfolded earlier this month when the owl, whose face, chest, and right wing were covered in dried concrete, was discovered at the Black Desert Resort. After assessing its ability to breathe, the sanctuary staff dedicated long hours to meticulously clean the delicate feathers of the young bird. Using forceps, toothbrushes, and dish soap, they worked diligently to free the owl from its hardening prison.
Strength Through Adversity
After two weeks of intensive care, the owl has regained the ability to fly and is currently recovering in an aviary. Bart Richwalski, a representative from the animal sanctuary, pointed out that this young male owl may have accidentally wandered into the concrete mixer, showcasing how even the purest of intentions can sometimes lead us astray.

"Once our owl friend recovers," Richwalski shared, "we anticipate taking him back to near where he was found, to let him be in a natural environment."
