Title: Community Urged to Assist in Elk Poaching Investigation in Oregon’s Wasco County
BEND, Ore. — The Oregon State Police (OSP) are reaching out to the public for assistance in solving a troubling case of wildlife poaching that highlights the need for community vigilance and respect for nature.
On September 6, 2025, a trail camera captured footage of two individuals illegally poaching a cow elk on private property near Antelope in Wasco County. The incident took place just before legal hunting hours, showcasing a blatant disregard for both the law and the ethical treatment of wildlife. This not only raises concerns about local law enforcement but reflects a broader issue of respect for creation—one that resonates deeply with values taught in the scriptures.
The suspects were seen shortly after the elk was shot, standing over its carcass. Their vehicle is believed to be a light-colored Nissan Frontier from 2001 to 2004. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward, as it could lead to a reward of $1,000 or four preference points towards hunting in the state.
Reflecting on Stewardship and Respect for Creation
The act of poaching not only violates laws but also undermines the delicate balance of ecosystems that we are called to preserve. In the Bible, we are reminded that "The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it" (Psalm 24:1). This perspective invites us to honor and protect our environment and its inhabitants, acting as stewards rather than mere users of the natural world.
Through initiatives like the Turn In Poachers (TIP) program, OSP emphasizes communal responsibility. This collaboration illustrates the principle that we are often stronger together, inspiring us to look out for one another—and for the integrity of the wildlife around us.
If you have any tips regarding the individuals involved in the poaching incident, you can reach out to OSP’s Northern Command Center at 800-442-0776 or email at TIP@osp.oregon.gov, referencing case number SP25-396292.
An Encouraging Takeaway
In reflecting on this situation, we can ponder our own interactions with the world and the moral obligations we carry. How might we embody stewardship in our daily lives? Whether through conservation efforts or simply being more mindful of our impact on the environment, every action counts.
May we aspire to nurture and protect what God has created, acting with integrity and compassion. As we think about our role within creation, let’s remember the encouraging words from Proverbs 12:10: “The righteous care for the needs of their animals.”
In a world where the values of respect and care are sometimes overshadowed, let this incident encourage us to embrace a sense of moral responsibility. Together, we can build a community rooted in respect for both each other and the nature that surrounds us.
