NASA’s SpaceX Crew-10 Mission on Hold, Astronauts Await Safe Return to Earth
With a favorable weather forecast at Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39A, NASA had initially planned to launch its SpaceX Crew-10 mission at 7:49 PM ET tonight. However, representatives from both NASA and SpaceX have announced a stand down from the launch attempt, moving the next opportunity to March 13th at 7:26 PM ET. This decision was taken to ensure that all systems are go when the crew embarks on their journey to the International Space Station (ISS).
The significance of the Crew-10 mission extends far beyond its timeline. It offers a chance for NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams to finally return home after spending nine months aboard the ISS. Their original mission was slated for a mere eight days, but unexpected hurdles, such as thruster failures and helium leaks with their Boeing Starliner spacecraft, delayed their safe return. Now, they are scheduled to fly back with Crew-9, launching tentatively on March 16, 2025, alongside two astronauts from an earlier mission.
The Crew-10 team is composed of NASA astronauts Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers, JAXA mission specialist Takuya Onishi, and Roscosmos cosmonaut Kirill Peskov.
