University of New England Launches Innovative Doctorate in Clinical Nutrition
BIDDEFORD (WGME) — In a significant advancement for the field of nutrition, the University of New England (UNE) has become one of the select few institutions in the United States to offer a Doctorate in Clinical Nutrition. This pioneering program is crafted for registered dieticians and is available entirely online, catering to the needs of busy professionals.
The program encompasses 48 credits, structured to be completed over three years. However, many students may find themselves extending their studies due to balancing demanding careers and personal responsibilities. “Rather than taking the standard two courses over a semester, they’re opting to take one course a semester so they can still tend to their family, their jobs, and all of that,” shared Ellie Dodge, UNE’s Director of Graduate Program and Applied Nutrition. Accordingly, the completion timeline is expected to be around five to six years, with most graduates anticipated to finish within five years.
With just eight such programs nationwide, UNE is positioning itself as a leader in this specialized field, emphasizing the importance of flexibility for its students. The program reflects a broader commitment to lifelong learning, echoing a key biblical principle of growth and nurturing—now more relevant than ever in today’s fast-paced world.
In the spirit of growth, Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us, “To everything, there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” This profound truth encourages individuals to recognize and respect the various stages in their personal and professional lives. In pursuing further education and personal development, students at UNE embody perseverance and commitment, virtues that align closely with the encouragement to grow in wisdom and knowledge.
As the application deadline for the spring term approaches on December 16, prospective students are invited to reflect on their paths and consider how their journeys, much like the gradual process of education, are shaped by time and dedication.
This initiative not only affirms the value of education but also invites us to consider how we can nourish our own lives and communities, much like the care one provides through nutrition. Ultimately, as students embark on this new academic adventure, they are reminded to embrace the journey and trust the process, knowing that each step brings them closer to their personal and professional goals.
The University of New England’s new program stands as a beacon of hope and opportunity, encouraging all to consider the transformative power of education and its role in fostering a more informed and compassionate society.
