Southern Iowa Chiropractor Sentenced for Insurance Fraud: A Lesson in Integrity
DES MOINES, Iowa — In a turn of events that calls attention to the importance of integrity and accountability, Theodore Richard Liautaud Jr., a 46-year-old resident of Knoxville, has been sentenced following a guilty plea related to insurance fraud. On May 1, Liautaud was arrested and faced several charges, including presenting false information, tampering with records, and theft in the third degree. Ultimately, he pled guilty to a lesser charge of theft in the fourth degree.
The sentencing, which occurred last week, resulted in a deferred judgment. In addition to the judgment, Liautaud was ordered to pay restitution, the amount of which remains undetermined, as well as a civil penalty of $430. He has also been placed on probation for one year. This case stemmed from an investigation launched by the Iowa Insurance Division’s Fraud Bureau after receiving a complaint about Liautaud, who is the owner of Chiropractic Hut-Liautaud Family Chiropractic in Pleasantville. The investigation revealed allegations that he had billed insurance providers for services that allegedly never took place between October 2021 and May 2023.
