Tragic Turn for Patient Seeking Alternative Kidney Treatment: Family Raises Alarm Over Self-Proclaimed Doctor

PETALING JAYA: A woman suffering from chronic kidney disease has died following a six-month regimen of alternative treatments purportedly derived from Ayurvedic practices. Disturbingly, the treatments were administered by a self-proclaimed doctor accused of misusing a Datuk Seri title, leading her family to seek justice.

In the aftermath of her passing, which occurred after she was hospitalized for two weeks, the woman’s family lodged a police report with the Serdang police chief ACP A.A Anbalagan. Authorities, including the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) and the Ministry of Health, have since conducted a raid on the premises linked to the individual managing these treatments. The police have confirmed that an investigation is ongoing.

B. Prakash, the woman’s son, recounted that his mother was diagnosed with stage four chronic kidney disease in 2022 and had been advised to undergo essential dialysis treatment. However, in a moment of desperation, spurred on by a TikTok video promoting alternative medicine, she decided to pursue Ayurvedic treatments that cost approximately RM10,000.

Alarming claims suggest that the self-proclaimed doctor outright dismissed modern medical practices, instead offering what he purported to be traditional remedies as a full substitute for established hospital care. “He provided false hope, stating that our mother’s illness could be completely cured without dialysis and the medication prescribed by qualified medical doctors,” shared Prakash. Tragically, the lack of legitimate medical oversight during these six months exacerbated her condition rather than alleviated it.

The implications of this case are troubling, highlighting the vulnerabilities faced by those seeking hope in the face of dire health challenges. This story resonates with the biblical principle found in Proverbs 11:14, which states, "Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety." It reminds us of the importance of seeking wisdom and guidance from trusted authorities, especially when it comes to matters of health and well-being.

Following the investigation, a 54-year-old man has been brought under scrutiny for reportedly using a false title, as police confiscated various materials linked to his unlicensed practice. The establishment where the treatments took place has been ordered to shut down according to the Bylaws of Beauty and Healthcare Centres 2013.

As the community processes this tragedy, it serves as a poignant reminder of the need for discernment in all facets of life, particularly in our search for healing and hope. Those facing similar struggles might benefit from resting in the assurance that genuine help can often be found through established avenues.

Ultimately, as we reflect on this heartbreaking case, let it serve as an invitation to prioritize wisdom and accountability in our pursuits, echoing Jesus’s call to seek truth and to care for one another compassionately. Let us hold on to the reminder from Psalm 147:3 — “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.” In times of distress, seek the light that genuine counsel and support can provide.
