Personal Touch Skincare Founders Take Aim at Shark Tank India Investors Over Disrespectful Treatment
In a surprising turn of events on the entrepreneurship-focused reality show Shark Tank India 4, founders Ashish and Aditi Jawa of Personal Touch Skincare have publicly criticized the show’s prominent investors, known as "sharks," for what they deemed as disrespectful treatment during their pitch. The brothers-sister duo specifically singled out Vineeta Singh, co-founder and CEO of SUGAR Cosmetics, for her condescending demeanor and skepticism regarding the authenticity of their brand’s claims.
During their presentation, Singh expressed doubt over the skincare brand’s claimed organic reach on Instagram, suggesting that the figures presented were inflated. In a moment that captured attention, she examined their Shopify data and accused the founders of misrepresenting their sales figures.
Reflecting on the experience in a video shared on their Instagram, Aditi described their dream of appearing on the show, lamenting that while they were not deeply affected by the lack of a deal, they were hurt by the comments questioning their community’s authenticity. “What was hurtful was the way the sharks treated us,” she shared, emphasizing the emotional toll of the experience.
Ashish added that the sharks failed to recognize the significant growth of their brand, which has scaled 11-fold year-on-year and built a community of loyal clients. He expressed disappointment over the accusation that their achievements were fabricated. “We shared our confidential Shopify data to validate our claims,” he stated, underscoring their transparency.
However, not all viewers resonated with the founders’ grievances. Social media was abuzz with users accusing Personal Touch Skincare of operating like a multi-level marketing (MLM) scheme, critiquing their tactics and questioning the genuineness of their community of followers. Comments poured in, with one user suggesting the company’s marketing strategies seemed contrived and another applauding Singh for holding startups accountable for their numbers.
As the narrative unfolded on social media, it shed light on a broader principle of authenticity and trustworthiness in business, reminiscent of biblical teachings. Proverbs 11:1 reminds us, "The Lord detests dishonest scales, but accurate weights find favor with Him." The founders’ experience on the show illustrates the necessity of integrity in entrepreneurship, a lesson echoed many times in scripture.
While criticism can be hard to swallow, both for the founders and their supporters, it also serves as an opportunity for reflection and growth. As the book of James advises, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance” (James 1:2-3).
As you reflect on this scenario, consider the importance of honesty and humility in your own pursuits. How might your approach to challenges be influenced by the values of integrity and community? In each setback, there lies an opportunity for growth. Let us strive to learn, adapt, and, above all, remain true to our principles in every endeavor we undertake.
