Petronas Launches Fourth Edition of FutureTech 4.0 Accelerator Programme to Foster Innovation in Energy Sector

KUCHING (March 29) — In a bold commitment to redefining the energy landscape, Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) announced the opening of applications for its FutureTech 4.0 accelerator programme. This initiative aims to scale innovative solutions from 20 selected start-ups over the course of a 12-week journey that integrates sustainability and innovation in response to contemporary industry challenges.

Petronas highlights that FutureTech 4.0 will delve into three primary categories: Industry and Work, Energy and Chemicals, and Materials, creating a focused environment for innovations that could shape a sustainable future. As Marina Md Taib, the senior vice president of corporate strategy at Petronas, articulated, “We believe that innovation is key to shaping a sustainable future.” This assertion resonates with the biblical principle of stewardship, emphasizing our responsibility to nurture and improve the world around us.

Participants in the programme will experience an‘Immersion Week’ coinciding with Energy Asia this June, culminating in a ‘Demo Day’ in August where budding entrepreneurs will showcase their solutions to C-suite executives and potential investors. This not only offers invaluable exposure but also aligns with the biblical encouragement to use one’s gifts and talents to uplift the community. As stated in 1 Peter 4:10, “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others…”

With a track record boasting over 900 applicants and the successful support of 65 start-ups in previous editions, Petronas, in collaboration with esteemed partners like S P Setia Bhd and Bosch, is poised to empower the next generation of innovators. The involvement of strategic partners and key players in the start-up ecosystem, including Malaysia’s Cradle Fund and Singapore’s SGInnovate, points to a collective effort that underscores the importance of community and partnership—values that echo throughout Scripture.

The FutureTech 4.0 programme not only cultivates technological advancements but also encourages socio-economic transformation, further establishing Petronas as a catalyst for change in the Asia Pacific region. As the launch strategy unfolds, many are drawn to consider how these efforts can foster a culture of innovation while serving the greater good.

Applications for FutureTech 4.0 are open until April 18. Aspiring start-ups seeking to make a difference can find more information here.

In reflecting on the opportunities presented through this accelerator, perhaps there’s an invitation for each of us to consider how we can innovate in our own lives and communities. As we cultivate our talents in alignment with divine purpose, we may find that transformational change begins with our willingness to serve others just as we have been served. May we be inspired to harness our potential, not just for individual gain, but to illuminate the path toward a brighter and more sustainable future for all.
