Breaking Barriers: Amita Naik’s Inspiring Journey in the Dairy Industry

In a world where women’s empowerment is often discussed but rarely realized, Amita Naik from Ibrampur, Pernem, stands as a beacon of determination and resilience. Through sheer tenacity, she has transformed her life from a homemaker to a successful entrepreneur in the dairy industry, exemplifying the power of faith and hard work.

Amita’s foray into entrepreneurship was unplanned. With her husband, she initially focused on cultivating gerbera flowers, drawing upon their farming background. However, a persistent sense of something missing led them to rethink their approach. In 2017, they took a bold step by acquiring cows, but despite their efforts, the returns from selling milk were insufficient.

“Selling milk at just Rs 30 per litre didn’t justify the effort we put in,” Amita reflected. But just when challenges mounted, the COVID-19 pandemic changed everything. The increased demand for milk opened new avenues, prompting the couple to explore value-added dairy production.

Realizing that Goa lacked local dairy products, Amita embraced the idea of processing milk into curd, paneer, and lassi. Her journey was enriched by training from organizations like the Lupin Foundation, which highlighted the significance of preparation and perseverance. “From 2020 to 2022, we learned the market and sourced quality materials,” she said, illustrating the importance of patience and dedication.

In the summer of 2023, after extensive preparation and securing necessary approvals, Amita launched her brand, Adishri Dairy. Starting with 10 cows, she now manages a thriving business with 25 cows producing 150 liters of milk daily. The transition from raw milk to processed products significantly increased their income, proving the biblical principle that hard work ultimately yields fruit: “He who gathers crops in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son” (Proverbs 10:5, NIV).

Despite her success, Amita faces the challenge of competing against established brands. “Goans still hesitate to support homegrown businesses,” she notes, reflecting the broader struggle of local entrepreneurs. Yet, her optimism shines through as she believes that recognition of quality and local support will grow over time.

Looking ahead, Amita has ambitious expansion plans for Adishri. Her journey underscores not only the power of entrepreneurial spirit but also the significance of community support. She stands as a testament to overcoming adversity through faith and resilience, embodying Jesus’ teaching that "with God all things are possible" (Matthew 19:26, NIV).

As we reflect on Amita’s inspiring journey, let us ponder our own barriers and challenges. Her story invites us to assess what prevents us from pursuing our own dreams. Are we willing to take that first step, embrace change, and elevate one another through support?

In a world that often presents obstacles, may we find courage in our faith, just as Amita has. Let her story remind us that, through hard work, determination, and community, we can forge paths to not only personal success but also uplift those around us.
