Plex Expands App Preview to tvOS, Emphasizing Community Feedback and Enhanced Features
Following its successful launch on mobile platforms in November, Plex is now inviting users to preview a "reimagined" app experience on tvOS. The company announced today that the preview has expanded to larger screens, offering a glimpse of what users can expect. As Plex noted in a recent blog post, “Please keep in mind this is nowhere close to perfect, but we want to get feedback from the community as early as we can.” This open approach highlights the importance of community engagement in app development, echoing biblical principles of collaboration and shared growth.
The updated interface prominently features live TV and on-demand rentals in the navigation bar, although users can opt out if they prefer to focus solely on their personal libraries. Those interested in participating in the preview will need to opt in, as the regular Plex app remains available for current users. Detailed instructions for opting in can be found on Plex’s forums.
Plex is also aiming to enhance social interaction within the platform. Users can now read and comment on movie and TV show reviews, which have been visible across the platform. This move reflects a growing trend towards community involvement in media consumption, reminiscent of the biblical call to bear one another’s burdens and share experiences (Galatians 6:2). By allowing profiles to be publicly accessible, Plex encourages users to share their viewing habits and preferences, fostering a sense of community that resonates with the spirit of togetherness emphasized in many faith traditions.
In addition to its social enhancements, Plex is also rolling out HEVC hardware encoding for all Plex Plus customers. This technology allows for superior video quality at lower bandwidth usage, a boon for streaming enthusiasts. It’s yet another demonstration of Plex’s commitment to providing value to its users, much like the parable of the talents encourages us to utilize and improve the gifts given to us (Matthew 25:14-30).
As Plex continues to innovate and seek user feedback, it invites the community to engage in a mutual journey of improvement and discovery. Those who partake in the preview not only contribute to the application’s development but also shape their own viewing experiences. This collaborative effort serves as a reminder of the importance of community, support, and continuous growth—principles that can be foundational in both our personal lives and spiritual journeys.
As you reflect on Plex’s approach to community engagement and improvement, consider how these principles of collaboration and support echo in your own life. What gifts have you been entrusted with, and how can you use them to contribute positively to your community? Remember, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do” (Ephesians 2:10). Embrace the opportunity to share and grow with those around you, and let your contributions shine brightly for all to see.
