New Delhi Launches Internet Governance Internship to Empower Young Minds

New Delhi, January 19 (ANI) – In a significant move to foster expertise in internet governance, the National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) has unveiled a new Internet Governance Internship and Capacity Building Scheme. This initiative, recently announced by S Krishnan, Secretary of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and Chairman of NIXI, seeks to equip Indian citizens with the necessary skills and knowledge to actively engage in global internet governance.

The program aims to bridge the knowledge gap in navigating the complex landscape of internet governance, empowering participants to collaborate with influential organizations such as the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the Internet Society, and the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). By enabling a deeper understanding of these key entities, participants will be better positioned to address and contribute to pressing internet governance issues.

Interns will have the opportunity to engage in a bi-annual internship through two parallel tracks: a six-month program and a three-month program. Both tracks will offer mentorship from subject matter experts, including leaders from international organizations, retired government officials, and esteemed faculty members. Additionally, a stipend of Rs 20,000 per month will be provided to support interns as they conduct outreach initiatives aimed at broadening the impact of their learning.

“This initiative is not just about professional growth; it’s about enabling individuals to partake in the stewardship of a resource that is increasingly central to our society,” said S Krishnan. He emphasized the importance of diverse perspectives in shaping digital policies that resonate with the real concerns of society. In this call to action, we can reflect on the biblical principle of stewardship. Just as Jesus instructed us to be good stewards of our resources (Matthew 25:14-30), this internship offers a platform for young adults to manage the "resource" of information and technology responsibly.

As the digital landscape continues to evolve, the need for informed advocates becomes critical. This internship serves as an opportunity to inspire the next generation of leaders who are not only knowledgeable but also compassionate and responsible. Today’s youth value experience and are eager for opportunities that improve their community engagement—something that aligns with Jesus’ teaching to serve others (Mark 10:45).

NIXI, established in June 2003, is dedicated to enhancing internet accessibility in India, and this new initiative is a testament to its commitment. By nurturing a talent pool equipped to deal with Internet governance, NIXI is effectively planting seeds for a future where digital landscapes are equitable and inclusive.

As we consider this opportunity, let us reflect on the importance of using our skills for the greater good. “Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). We are all called to shine in our respective fields, and this internship encourages that shine to manifest in tangible actions that positively impact society.

In a world increasingly reliant on the digital realm, let us encourage our young generations not just to pursue knowledge but to harness it for the benefit of all, creating a community rooted in goodwill and wise stewardship.
