Local Initiative Empowers Businesses for Sustainable Growth with SBX Good to Grow Program
Orillia, Ontario – A New Path for Local Entrepreneurs
In a bold move to strengthen the local economy, Fuel Innovation, the City of Orillia’s Innovation Collective, has partnered with Sandbox Centre (SBX) to unveil the SBX Good to Grow program. This initiative aims to provide established small businesses in Orillia and Lake Country with essential tools and strategies for sustainable growth and financial resilience.
“Every day, small businesses face challenges that can hinder their potential,” emphasized Mayor Don McIsaac. “We are excited to bring the SBX Good to Grow program to Orillia. This initiative not only offers local businesses the tools and guidance they need to scale sustainably but also bolsters our community’s economic vitality.”
The program targets businesses that have a solid foundation—those that have been operating for three or more years and employ between two to 15 full-time staff members. It’s designed for organizations ready to invest in their strategic growth, thereby fostering a more resilient business community.
Running throughout February 2025, the SBX Good to Grow program will support a select cohort of ten businesses. Participants will undergo in-depth training on critical subjects such as financial risk management and strategic investment planning. The curriculum features two self-paced virtual modules and an in-person workshop, supplemented by personalized advice from experienced strategists and financial analysts.
“Small businesses make up more than 98 percent of Canada’s employers,” noted Jesse Kerr, senior manager of innovation and partnerships at Sandbox Centre. “Yet, they often fall through the cracks of the support ecosystem. The SBX Good to Grow program provides much-needed support focused on operational efficiency and strategic revenue investment.” This commitment mirrors the broader Christian principle of stewardship, which encourages individuals and organizations to manage their resources wisely and responsibly.
Businesses interested in participating can apply through an online application form by January 24, 2025. Chosen applicants will gain access to a $1,500 cohort package for a nominal fee of $350, ensuring that investment in growth remains accessible.
This initiative resonates with biblical principles emphasizing the importance of community support and growth. As it is said in Proverbs 11:25, “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” By nurturing local entrepreneurs, the initiative reflects a commitment to collective well-being and mutual support.
As this program unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the spiritual dimension of business: in seeking to uplift others, we also create opportunities for our own flourishing. The SBX Good to Grow program invites local businesses to not only pursue their own success but to cultivate a thriving community around them.
Ultimately, the takeaway for both businesses and individuals reflects a profound truth: success is most meaningful when it is shared. As we embrace opportunities for growth, may we also be encouraged to invest in the success of those around us.
