Chandler-Gilbert Community College Pioneers Bachelor’s Degree in Artificial Intelligence
PHOENIX — In a remarkable move towards educational innovation, Chandler-Gilbert Community College (CGCC) is set to offer a Bachelor of Science in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning starting in the fall of 2025. This initiative will place CGCC among a select group of community colleges nationally to provide a four-year degree in this rapidly evolving field.
The registration for the fully accredited program will open in March, enabling students to pursue advanced studies that will equip them for the demands of the modern workforce. CGCC joins only two other community colleges in the nation that currently offer such a specialized degree.
A Proven Track Record in AI Education
Chandler-Gilbert Community College is no stranger to AI education; it launched Arizona’s first associate degree and certificate programs in artificial intelligence in collaboration with Intel in 2020. Further solidifying its commitment to advancing education in technology, CGCC’s parent institution, the Maricopa Community Colleges District (MCCCD), recently joined the National Applied Artificial Intelligence Consortium, aimed at enhancing AI training protocols.
This new program comes on the heels of a 2021 Arizona state law that expanded the curriculum capabilities of community colleges, allowing them to offer bachelor’s degrees alongside their traditional associate degrees.
Opening Doors with Purpose and Vision
“This degree represents not only a significant milestone for our college but also a critical access point for our community to emerge as leaders in technology and innovation,” stated CJ Wurster, the interim president of CGCC, in a recent press release. “Our faculty and staff are dedicated to ensuring that our students receive an exceptional educational experience.”
CGCC’s exciting foray into a baccalaureate program aligns with the biblical principle found in Proverbs 1:5, which declares, “Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance.” Pursuing knowledge is a tenet echoed throughout scripture, highlighting the value of education and the pursuit of wisdom.
A Call to Reflect on Our Journey of Knowledge
As CGCC embarks on this journey, it is an invitation for both students and the broader community to reflect on their paths toward growth and understanding. The integration of advanced educational offerings like this emphasizes the importance of using knowledge responsibly and for the betterment of society.
Let us encourage one another to be diligent in our pursuits. As we gather knowledge and skills, we are reminded of Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”
This development not only signifies a leap forward in academic opportunities but also serves as a reminder of the transformative power of education, paving the way for students to contribute positively to the world around them.
Takeaway: In light of this exciting news, consider how you can invest in your own learning journey. What steps can you take today to cultivate knowledge, not just for personal gain, but for the benefit of your community and beyond?
