Russian Court Fines Google $2 Decillion for Content Blocking on YouTube
In an unprecedented move, a Russian court has levied a staggering fine of $2 decillion against Google for allegedly blocking audiovisual content on its YouTube platform. This colossal penalty, which continues to increase daily for non-compliance, stems from the removal of channels deemed controversial by the Russian government. Reports indicate that this fine, a figure incomprehensible to many, surpasses the entire global economy, estimated to be around $110 trillion.
Attorney Ivan Morozov, commenting on the situation, noted, "Google was called by a Russian court to administrative liability under Art. 13.41 of the Administrative Offenses Code for removing channels on the YouTube platform." The court has mandated that Google restore the affected channels and, should the company fail to comply within nine months, the fine will double every day, imposing potentially unmanageable financial pressure.

Over this period, it has reportedly blocked more than 1,000 channels and over 5.5 million videos.
While the scale of the fine may appear symbolic, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov emphasized its significance in underscoring grievances against Google. “These demands demonstrate the essence of our channels’ claims against Google," he stated, urging the tech firm to reconsider its current operational approach within Russia.
