What Jesus teaches about The Kingdom of God

Introduction

The Kingdom of God is an exciting and transformative concept that Jesus spoke about frequently during His ministry. It’s not just a distant reality, but something we can experience and partake in even now. Imagine living in a world where God’s love reigns supreme, where compassion and righteousness are the norm. This is the Kingdom of God, and Jesus invites us to be a part of it.

As you journey through this devotional, open your heart to see glimpses of God’s kingdom in your everyday life. Jesus’ teachings about the Kingdom are filled with hope, promise, and a call to action. Let’s dive deeper to understand what it means to live as citizens of God’s kingdom today.

Bible Verse

Luke 17:20-21 (NIV): “Once, on being asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, ‘The coming of the kingdom of God is not something that can be observed, nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is in your midst.’”

Meaning

The Pharisees expected a visible, political kingdom when they asked Jesus about the arrival of God’s kingdom. However, Jesus revealed that the Kingdom of God is not something that comes with external signs; it is already present among them.

The Kingdom of God begins internally, within our hearts and lives. When Jesus says the Kingdom is “in your midst,” He invites His listeners to recognize His presence and reign within them. It’s not confined by geography or government but characterized by God’s power, love, and righteous rule within His people.

Moreover, Jesus’ life and ministry exemplified the Kingdom’s values – love, mercy, humility, and justice. As His followers, we are called to live out these values daily, bringing little parts of heaven to earth.

Actions to Take

  • Seek God Daily: Spend time in prayer and Bible reading to grow closer to God and align your life with His Kingdom values.

  • Show Love and Compassion: Actively look for ways to show love and compassion to those around you, just as Jesus did.

  • Pursue Righteousness: Strive for integrity and righteousness in your words, actions, and decisions.

  • Community Engagement: Get involved in your local church or community to serve others and spread God’s love.

  • Live Out Kingdom Values: Reflect on the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:1-12) and ask God to help you embody these attitudes in your daily life.
