Spiritual Devotional about Holistic Health and Wellness

A Godly Approach to Holistic Health & Wellness

“Or don’t you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to youby God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” – 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Each day that we live and breathe is a precious gift from the Lord. A step further in thanking Him for this gift is taking great care of what He has provided us – our bodies.

Holistic Health: A Balance of Mind, Body and Spirit

The concept of holistic health isn’t new. In essence, it promotes the idea that our health isn’t merely about our physical condition, but also our emotional, intellectual, social, environmental and spiritual well-being. Living a balanced life, wherein all these dimensions are well attended to, aligns with God’s perspective on health and wellness.

“Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well.” – 3 John 1:2

Physical Health

God values our bodies, the intricate details and fine tuning which only a master artist could perfect. Regular exercise, a balanced diet, and sufficient rest aims to maintain this physical gift, keeping it flexible and dynamic. “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” – 1 Corinthians 10:31.

Emotional & Intellectual Health

Practicing mindfulness and positive thinking helps maintain our emotional wellness. Continued learning, critical thinking, and solving problems keep our intellectual health in check. This too, is important in maintaining a healthy life, for Proverbs 17:22 says, “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”

Social & Environmental Health

God created us for community. Amidst our busy lives, it is important to nurture healthy relationships, and to care for the environment, as stewards of God’s creation. In Genesis 2:15, we are called to “watch over” and “care” for the world around us.

Spiritual Health

No holistic wellness discussion would be complete without considering our spiritual health. It is the ultimate source of peace, comfort, and eternal hope. Philippians 4:7 tells us, “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”.

As we develop these aspects of our lives, let’s remember that ultimate wellness comes from our relationship with Christ. In Him, our mind, body, and spirit find their ideal balance and harmony. May you continue to strive for holistic health, not just to live well, but to honor the Lord with the bodies He ordained for us.

Prayer

Dear Lord, Please help me pursue a life of holistic health. May each step taken in nurturing my body, mind and spirit bring glory to you. Amen.
