Money Devotional: Honoring God with our Finances

God’s Ownership of Everything

As we consider our finances, it’s important to remember that God is the ultimate owner of everything. The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it (Psalm 24:1). When we understand that all our money and possessions belong to God, it changes the way we approach our finances. We’re called to be good stewards of what He has entrusted to us.

Giving Generously and Cheerfully

One of the biblical principles concerning money is the act of giving. In 2 Corinthians 9:7, it says, “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” When we give generously and cheerfully, we honor God and demonstrate our trust in His provision. Giving opens our hearts to receive even more blessings from the Lord.

Avoiding the Love of Money

While money itself isn’t evil, the love of money can lead to all kinds of trouble (1 Timothy 6:10). It’s essential to keep our priorities straight and not allow the pursuit of wealth to consume us. Our focus should be on seeking first the kingdom of God, knowing that all our needs will be provided for (Matthew 6:33). When we prioritize God over money, we experience true contentment and peace.

Trusting God’s Provision

Lastly, when we trust in God’s provision, we can have confidence that He will take care of us. Philippians 4:19 reminds us, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” Trusting God with our finances allows us to live with freedom from worry and fear, knowing that He is faithful to provide for all our needs.
