Devotional about I am Defined by My God not My Past
I Am Defined by My God not My Past
Letting Go of the Past
As believers, we are reminded in the Bible that we are defined by our God, not our past. Our past mistakes, failures, and sins do not have the power to define who we are. Instead, we are defined by the love, grace, and forgiveness of our Heavenly Father.
- God’s love for us is unconditional and unchanging (Romans 8:38-39).
- We are made new in Christ, the old has passed away (2 Corinthians 5:17).
- God’s forgiveness covers all our sins, past, present, and future (1 John 1:9).
Embracing Our Identity in Christ
When we understand and embrace our identity in Christ, we can walk confidently in who He says we are. We can let go of the shame and guilt of our past and live in the freedom and victory that Christ has won for us.
- Choose to believe what God says about you over what your past says.
- Ask God to help you see yourself the way He sees you.
- Remind yourself daily of your identity in Christ.
Journal Prompts
- Reflect on a past mistake or sin that has been holding you back. How can you release it to God and embrace His forgiveness?
- Write down three truths about your identity in Christ. How do these truths change the way you see yourself?
- Is there someone in your life who needs to hear that they are defined by God, not their past? How can you encourage them with this message?
Prayer
Dear God, thank you for defining me by your love and grace, not my past mistakes. Help me to see myself through your eyes and walk confidently in my identity in Christ. May I let go of the shame and guilt of my past and live in the freedom you have provided. Amen.
