Embracing Purity
Living a Life of Purity
As believers, we are called to live lives of purity, striving to honor God in all that we do. Purity is not just about abstaining from physical impurity, but it also encompasses our thoughts, motives, and desires. We are called to be pure in heart and mind, seeking after righteousness.
Scripture tells us in 1 Timothy 4:12, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” This verse reminds us that purity is not dependent on our age or circumstances, but it is a deliberate choice that we can make each day.
Seeking God’s Standards
God’s standards for purity may be countercultural, but they are ultimately for our good. In Psalm 24:3-4, we read, “Who may ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may stand in his holy place? The one who has clean hands and a pure heart.” It is through seeking God’s standards and seeking after Him that we can cultivate lives of purity.
Choosing Purity Daily
Living a life of purity is a daily choice. It may require saying no to certain influences, thoughts, or actions that lead us away from God’s standard of purity. However, through His strength, we can choose purity each day and walk in a manner that honors Him.
Scripture reminds us in Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.” As we fill our minds with what is pure and lovely, we can find strength to choose purity daily.
