Short Bible Answers: Wisdom

The Fear of the Lord

Wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord. When we have a healthy reverence for God and His Word, we open our hearts to receive His wisdom and guidance.

• The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge (Proverbs 1:7).

• Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5).

• The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Psalm 111:10).

Seeking Godly Counsel

God calls us to seek wise counsel from others who are grounded in His Word. Surrounding ourselves with godly mentors and friends can provide valuable insight and direction.

• Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety (Proverbs 11:14).

• Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future (Proverbs 19:20).

• Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed (Proverbs 15:22).

Putting Knowledge into Action

Wisdom isn’t just about acquiring knowledge; it’s about applying that knowledge to our daily lives. Let’s take God’s principles and put them into action, living out our faith in practical ways.

• But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves (James 1:22).

• The one who hears the word and does not do it is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror (James 1:23).

• Apply your heart to instruction and your ears to words of knowledge (Proverbs 23:12).
