Being a Person After God’s Own Heart

How to be a Person After God’s Own Heart

Seeking God First

Being a person after God’s own heart means putting Him first in everything we do. When we seek God first, we align our hearts with His and prioritize His will above our own desires. As it says in Matthew 6:33, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

Obeying God’s Word

In Psalm 119:11, the psalmist writes, “I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” Being a person after God’s own heart involves obeying His Word and allowing it to shape our thoughts, actions, and decisions. When we live according to God’s Word, we reflect His heart and character to the world.

Cultivating a Heart of Humility

One of the key characteristics of a person after God’s own heart is humility. In Micah 6:8, it says, “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Cultivating a heart of humility involves recognizing our dependence on God and acknowledging His sovereignty in our lives.

Embracing Forgiveness and Love

God’s own heart is characterized by forgiveness and love. As followers of Christ, we are called to reflect these qualities in our lives. Colossians 3:13 reminds us to, “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” Embracing forgiveness and love allows us to mirror God’s heart to those around us.
