Prayer related to theme of Matthew 5:3-10

Dear God,

I am humbled to come before you in prayer, recognizing my own spiritual poverty and need for your grace. I thank you for the promise that those who are poor in spirit will inherit the kingdom of heaven.

I confess that I have not always mourned over my sins as I should, and I ask for your comfort and forgiveness in those moments. Thank you for the promise that those who mourn will be comforted.

I acknowledge that I have not always been meek in my interactions with others, and I pray for your help in cultivating a gentle and humble spirit. Thank you for the promise that the meek will inherit the earth.

I confess that I have not always hungered and thirsted for righteousness as I should, and I ask for your help in seeking after your will and ways. Thank you for the promise that those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be filled.

I recognize that I have not always been merciful towards others, and I ask for your grace to show compassion and forgiveness as you have shown to me. Thank you for the promise that the merciful will receive mercy.

I confess that I have not always been pure in heart, and I ask for your strength to guard my thoughts and attitudes. Thank you for the promise that the pure in heart will see you.

I acknowledge that I have not always been a peacemaker, and I pray for your wisdom and guidance in promoting peace and reconciliation. Thank you for the promise that the peacemakers will be called children of God.

I know that I may face persecution for following you, and I pray for your strength and courage to stand firm in the face of adversity. Thank you for the promise that those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake will inherit the kingdom of heaven.

Help me, Lord, to live out these Beatitudes in my daily life, and may my heart be filled with your love, mercy, and grace.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
