Author Lee Suzy Advocates for Lifelong Enjoyment of Picture Books at BICBF

Her works, such as Wave and Shadow, both honored on the New York Times list of Best Illustrated Children’s Books, reflect her commitment to storytelling that resonates with readers of all generations.
In her keynote speech titled "The Wide Rainbow of Children," Lee expressed her unique approach to storytelling through color. “Images tell a story in picture books — not words, and color is a tool that I use in my images to tell stories,” she remarked, suggesting that engaging with picture books allows readers to interpret narratives imaginatively.
Interestingly, Lee shared her insights on the global rise of interest in Korean children’s literature, describing the local scene as dynamic and full of potential. "Korea doesn’t have a very long history with children’s books, so there are comparatively fewer rules and more room for authors to explore," she reflected. However, she cautioned against the financial challenges local authors face, advocating for better support through policy changes, such as implementing public lending rights.
