Devotional about Entertainment

Entertainment and Proverbs 3:5

Introduction

Dear friends,

Welcome to today’s devotional about entertainment! In a world where we are constantly bombarded with various forms of entertainment, it is important for us to approach it with wisdom and discernment. As we delve into this topic, we will explore how we can align our entertainment choices with the teachings of Proverbs 3:5 and grow in our faith. So, let us embark on this inspiring journey together!

Movies

There are movies that can not only entertain us but also inspire and deepen our walk with God. Just as Proverbs 3:5 encourages us to trust in the Lord with all our hearts, there are films that portray characters who triumph by placing their complete trust in God. Movies like “Facing the Giants”, “Soul Surfer”, and “The Nativity Story” remind us of the power of unwavering faith, urging us to trust in God’s plan even when faced with obstacles and challenges. Through these stories, we are reminded to surrender our struggles to Him, knowing that He is always in control.

TV Shows

Television shows can be a great source of entertainment, but they can also be educational and spiritually uplifting. Just as Proverbs 3:5 encourages us to lean not on our own understanding, there are TV shows that challenge us to rely on God’s wisdom rather than our limited knowledge. Shows like “The Chosen”, “Touched by an Angel”, and “The Bible” series portray characters who trust in the Lord’s guidance despite difficult circumstances. Through their stories, we are inspired to seek God’s wisdom and align our lives with His purpose, reminding us that His plans are always greater than our own.

Music

Music has the power to touch our hearts, uplift our spirits, and draw us closer to God. Just as Proverbs 3:5 encourages us to acknowledge God in all our ways, there are songs that remind us of His constant presence and faithfulness. Worship songs like “Oceans (Where Feet May Fail)” by Hillsong United, “Good Good Father” by Chris Tomlin, and “Amazing Grace (My Chains Are Gone)” by Chris Tomlin speak directly to our souls, calling us to surrender our lives to God and trust in Him completely. These melodies echo the truth that when we lean on God, we find solace and strength in His unending love.

Conclusion

As we conclude this exploration of entertainment in light of Proverbs 3:5, let us remember that entertainment is not inherently wrong, but it becomes a valuable asset when it helps us grow in our relationship with God. By seeking out movies, TV shows, and music that align with biblical values and encourage us to trust in the Lord, we can turn entertainment into a spiritual experience.

Prayer related to theme of Proverbs 3:5

Dear Heavenly Father,

As I come before You in prayer, I humbly open my heart to seek guidance and wisdom, dwelling upon the profound words of Proverbs 3:5: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”

Today, I surrender my doubts and fears, my uncertainties and insecurities, to Your loving embrace. I confess that at times, I’ve allowed my limited perception to cloud my trust in You. But, O Lord, I yearn to walk in unshakable faith, to acknowledge that Your ways are higher than my own.

In a world filled with constant distractions and shifting circumstances, I seek refuge in Your everlasting arms. You are the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. You hold the universe in Your hands and orchestrate each moment of my life. Help me to embrace Your divine plan, even when it seems perplexing or challenging.

Please grant me the grace to lay aside my own understanding and trust wholeheartedly in You. Teach me to rely on Your wisdom, which far surpasses any human knowledge, and to surrender control to Your perfect will. May Your Spirit guide me through the twists and turns, illuminating the path You desire for me to tread.

Lord, I confess that my human inclination is to lean on my limited understanding, attempting to navigate life’s complexities in my own strength. But I recognize the truth that You alone are the source of true wisdom and knowledge. Therefore, I pray for a heart that is open and receptive to Your voice, one that longs to align its desires with Your plan for my life.

I confess that there are times when I’ve walked the wrong path, desperately clinging to my own understanding. Yet, in Your everlasting mercy, You still offer redemption and restoration. Help me to trust in You enough to relinquish my own plans and desires, submitting myself fully to Your perfect purpose.

Teach me, gracious Father, to surrender my doubts and fears in the face of life’s uncertainties. Fill me with the confidence that comes from truly trusting in You. Grant me the wisdom to discern Your voice in the midst of confusion, and the courage to follow Your guidance wholeheartedly.

Thank You, dear Lord, for the promise of Your unwavering presence and guidance. May I lean on You in times of abundance and scarcity, in joy and sorrow, and in the mundane and extraordinary moments of life. I trust that as I release my own understanding, You will lead me along the path of righteousness, bringing glory to Your name.

In Jesus’s name, I pray,

Amen.
