Hebrews 12:1-2 (NIV) – “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

Meaning

These verses remind us that as believers, we are called to live a life of faith that is marked by perseverance. We are encouraged to throw off anything that hinders us and keeps us from fully following Jesus. Just like athletes train and prepare for a race, we are called to fix our eyes on Jesus and run the race of faith with endurance. Jesus is the perfect example of faith and endurance, enduring the cross for the joy set before Him.
