Entertainment Devotional

Introduction

Entertainment is a big part of our lives, and it’s important to remember that even our leisure activities can be a form of worship. As Colossians 3:23-24 says, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” This includes how we entertain ourselves!

2. Fixer Upper – While they renovate homes, Chip and Joanna Gaines engage in their work with creativity and diligence, serving as an example of how to work as if we are working for the Lord.

Music

1. “Oceans” by Hillsong United – This song expresses the desire to trust and follow God wholeheartedly, no matter what lies ahead, in line with the message of Colossians 3:23-24.

2. “The Motions” by Matthew West – This song urges us to live fully for God and not just go through the motions, reminding us to approach all tasks with enthusiasm and dedication.

Prayer related to theme of Colossians 3:23-24

Dear Lord,

I come before you today with a heart full of gratitude and praise. I thank you for the gift of work and the opportunity to serve others through it. As I reflect on Colossians 3:23-24, I am reminded that whatever I do, I should work at it with all my heart, as working for you, Lord, and not for human masters. I pray that my work may be a reflection of your love and grace.

Help me to approach each task with joy and enthusiasm, knowing that you are the ultimate rewarder of my efforts. Guide my thoughts, words, and actions as I strive to glorify you in all that I do. May my work bring honor to your name and be a source of blessing to others.

I pray that you would strengthen me with your wisdom and power, and fill me with a spirit of excellence as I carry out my responsibilities. Help me to be a beacon of light in the workplace, showing kindness, patience, and compassion to those around me.

Lord, I surrender my work into your hands and ask for your guidance and direction. Empower me to work diligently and faithfully, knowing that my ultimate reward comes from you, not from the approval of others. May my work be pleasing in your sight and bring glory to your name.

In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
