Devotional about I am Defined by My God not My Past

I Am Defined by My God

I Am Defined by My God not My Past

God’s Redemption

As a believer, I am defined by the love and redemption of my God, not by my past mistakes or failures. God’s grace covers my past and His love defines my present and future.

Renewed Identity

When I accepted Christ, I became a new creation. My old self has passed away and my identity is now found in Christ. My past no longer defines me because I am a child of God, forgiven and redeemed.

Living in Freedom

By embracing God’s love and grace, I can live in the freedom of knowing that my past does not dictate my worth or value. I am defined by the God who created me and who has a purpose for my life.

Journal Prompts

  1. Reflect on a time when you felt defined by your past. How did it impact your self-perception?
  2. Think about a specific area of your life where you struggle to let go of the past. What would it look like to fully embrace God’s redemption in that area?
  3. Consider the ways in which God has transformed your identity since becoming a believer. What aspects of your old self have been replaced by your new identity in Christ?

Prayer

Dear God, thank you for your love and redemption. Help me to let go of the ways in which I have defined myself by my past, and to fully embrace the identity you have given me as your child. Fill me with the confidence and security that comes from knowing I am defined by you, not my past. Amen.
