Prayer about Rest

Introduction

Prayer is a source of comfort, guidance, and strength—it’s our intimate connection to God. It offers us a way to express our gratitude, to seek forgiveness, and to request assistance. When we pray, we acknowledge our reliance on God and reaffirm our faith in His abilities. Often times, prayer helps us find the peace and rest we desire amid life’s storms.

Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Today, more than ever, I need the rest that only You can give. Life can be so overwhelming and I have found myself exhausted, not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well. I lay my burdens before You now, trusting in Your promise that those who come to You will find rest.

Help me to release all my anxieties and worries to You. Quiet my mind that I may experience the tranquility and serenity that stems from being in Your presence. Grant me the grace to cease striving and to find respite in You. Teach me the meaning of true rest—rest that wholly depends on Your assurance and not on my understanding.

Thank You, Lord, for Your unfailing love and faithfulness. With You, I have the assurance that tomorrow will be better, and with You, I find the strength to overcome every challenge that comes my way. I trust in Your mercies, new every morning, that deliver me from my trials and pains. Thank You for the rest and rejuvenation You provide.

In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

Conclusion

We hope that this prayer has brought you comfort and the rest you yearn for. However, remember that rest doesn’t only come through prayer but also through letting go and trusting in God’s plan. As you walk this journey of faith, we encourage you to immerse yourself regularly in God’s Word, for it is a lamp unto your feet and a light unto your path.

Journal Prompts about Rest

1. Reflect on the story of God resting on the seventh day after Creation (Genesis 2:2-3). Why do you think God chose to rest, despite being all-powerful and not needing to? How can his rest impact your understanding of your own need for downtime?

2. Jesus said, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). What burdens are you carrying right now that you need to surrender to Jesus? How can you find rest in Him?

3. Psalm 23 speaks about the Lord leading us beside still waters and restoring our souls. Write about an instance where you experienced this sort of spiritual rest and restoration.

4. The Bible encourages us to have a Sabbath day of rest (Exodus 20:8–11). How do you observe the Sabbath in your life? How can you improve your observation of this day of rest?

5. Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed (Luke 5:16). How can you follow his example and incorporate solitude and prayer as a form of spiritual rest into your daily life?

6. In Psalm 127:2, it says, “He gives to His beloved sleep.” Document your thoughts on how a good sleep serves as a form of rest and a gift from God. Are you getting adequate restful sleep? If not, how can you make changes?

7. Exodus 33:14 says, “My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Write down moments where you felt God’s presence and how it gave you rest.

8. Reflect on Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, which speaks about there being a time for everything, including rest. Write about how you balance periods of work and periods of rest in your life, and how you can improve this balance through the wisdom from these verses.
