When Ben Jones died on August 9, 2026, at 84, most of the headlines used the same photo: grease-stained overalls, a wrench in one hand, that easy grin. That’s Cooter Davenport, the mechanic Jones played for six seasons on The Dukes of Hazzard<\/em> \u2014 the guy who kept the General Lee running and talked half of America through Friday nights in the late 1970s and early ’80s.<\/p>\n\n
