Federal Government Launches N50 Million Student Venture Capital Grant to Foster Innovation in Tertiary Institutions<\/h3>\n

Abuja, Nigeria<\/strong> – In a significant move to boost entrepreneurship and innovation, the Federal Government on Monday launched a N50 million Student Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG). This initiative aims to empower young innovators across Nigeria\u2019s tertiary institutions and is part of the broader Renewed Hope Agenda for Education championed by President Bola Tinubu.<\/p>\n

Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, emphasized that the S-VCG is more than just a financial grant; it represents a strategic national investment in the potential of young students. \u201cOur goal is to identify high-potential ideas from campuses, fostering a culture of creativity and enterprise among students,\u201d he stated during the launch event.<\/p>\n

Investing in Potential<\/h3>\n

Successful applicants will receive up to N50 million in equity-free funding, comprehensive incubation support, expert mentorship, and access to crucial startup resources. The program is designed for full-time students enrolled in federal, state, and private tertiary institutions from their third year onward, with provisions for younger peers as team members.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis initiative aims to illuminate the path of exceptional talents,\u201d Alausa said. \u201cNot every idea will immediately blossom into a startup, yet some may evolve into patents and technologies that can significantly impact the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

Echoing the biblical principle of stewardship, where resources are viewed as opportunities for growth and service, this grant embodies a proactive approach to nurturing the innate creativity bestowed upon young minds. As Proverbs 16:3 states, \u201cCommit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.\u201d This scripture suggests that when young innovators dedicate their efforts to a purpose grounded in values, their potential can flourish in remarkable ways.<\/p>\n

A Holistic Support System<\/h3>\n

This initiative, a collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Education, TETFund, and various corporate partners including the Bank of Industry and Google, aims to close existing investment gaps. The National Programme Coordinator, Mr. Adebayo Onigbanjo, shared insight into the program\u2019s impact, noting that the application portal had already attracted over 17,000 submissions from more than 400 institutions, highlighting a keen interest in entrepreneurial endeavors.<\/p>\n

Alausa further elaborated on the application evaluation process, where shortlisted teams will present ideas to a select panel of experts. \u201cThis collaborative environment encourages innovation and shared learning,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

Former Minister of Power, Prof. Barth Nnaji, praised the initiative for aligning with the push to deepen scientific research and innovation. He expressed hope that such programs could fuel impactful inventions aimed at addressing local challenges while meeting global needs.<\/p>\n
