Oxford City Council Takes Bold Step to Address Deer Overpopulation through Professional Culling<\/strong><\/p>\n

OXFORD \u2014 In a unanimous decision, the Oxford City Council has opted to hire professional sharpshooters from White Buffalo, a non-profit organization, to manage the city’s burgeoning deer population. This action comes in response to concerns over environmental degradation, increased instances of tick-borne illnesses, and collisions involving deer.<\/em><\/p>\n

The council’s decision was prompted by evidence suggesting that the local hunting program has been ineffective in controlling the deer population’s growth. "Our local hunting program is not keeping up with population growth," stated Jessica Greene, the Assistant City Manager.<\/p>\n

The situation not only poses risks to drivers but also threatens the ecological balance, leading to the decline of diverse plant species. The contracted sharpshooters will employ bait to attract deer to designated areas, where they will conduct the culling process. Notably, the meat will be processed and donated to local food banks. This initiative aims to humanely cull up to 100 deer, pending approval from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and a thorough population survey.<\/p>\n

White Buffalo’s Head of Operations, Dane Stevens, assured residents that the sharpshooters are trained to operate at night, ensuring minimal disruption and maximum safety for the community.
