Recent data from Eurostat revealed that services inflation in the 20 countries utilizing the euro surged to 4.0% in December, marking the 13th consecutive month of inflation rates in this range. This figure is strikingly higher than pre-pandemic levels, where inflation typically hovered between 1% and 2%. <\/p>\n

While the housing component of the services Consumer Price Index (CPI) saw a minor deceleration to 3.3%, other service-related costs continue to weigh heavy on consumers. The ECB’s recent decision to cut its deposit rate, despite this persistent inflation, raises questions about the effectiveness of such measures.<\/p>\n
