While the initial effort focused on removing the rope from the elk’s antlers, the challenge of safely lowering the animal from the vertical cliff remained. Fortunately, the same climbers who reported the elk jumped into action, working alongside wildlife officers to fashion a rescue plan using two ropes\u2014one supporting the elk\u2019s chest and the other securing its antlers. After a coordinated effort, the team successfully lowered the elk to more stable ground. John Livingston, a spokesman for CPW, described the elk’s condition, noting that it showed signs of fatigue but only minor scrapes from its ordeal. He reflected on the time and care taken to ensure the animal\u2019s safety: \u201cIt took over two hours to free the hapless animal, demonstrating our commitment to wildlife.\u201d<\/p>\n
