Tragic Losses: Investigation Underway as 13 Children Die from Contaminated Nutrition in Mexico<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mexican authorities are currently investigating the heartbreaking deaths of 13 children, all under the age of 14, suspected to be linked to contaminated bags of intravenous nutrition provided in four medical facilities across central Mexico. Health officials have reported that the suspected cause of death is an infection from the multidrug-resistant bacteria Klebsiella oxytoca, a pathogen known for its association with serious hospital-acquired infections, including pneumonia and bloodstream infections. The tragic incidents occurred at three public hospitals and one private clinic in the State of Mexico, prompting a nationwide epidemiological alert.<\/p>\n

In an official statement, Mexico\u2019s Health Secretariat indicated that the outbreak may be connected to intravenous parenteral nutrition solutions or the supplies used for their administration that could be contaminated. Currently, out of 20 identified cases of Klebsiella oxytoca, 15 cases have been confirmed, with four classified as probable and one ruled out.
