\n“From that time on Jesus began to preach, \u2018Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.\u2019” (Matthew 4:17).\n<\/p>\n

Meaning<\/h2>\n

\nIn this passage, Jesus emphasizes the urgency and importance of repentance. The underlying Greek word for repentance is “metanoia,” which implies a change of mind and direction based on a spiritual decision. \n<\/p>\n

\nWhen Jesus speaks of the Kingdom of Heaven, he is alluding to God\u2019s reign in our hearts\u2014His sovereignty over our lives. Repentance then, is a shift in mindset and conduct that aligns our lives to that reign.\n<\/p>\n

\nInterestingly enough, repentance is not about self-condemnation but acknowledgment of our missteps before an understanding and forgiving God.
