Today, we embark on a captivating exploration of calling, discipleship, and divine encounter, as revealed in the Gospel of John, chapter 1, verses 35 to 51. This passage, is not just a narrative; it’s an invitation to each of us to reflect, engage, and grow in our daily walk with God. So, let\u2019s dive in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our story begins with John the Baptist, who stands with two of his disciples as Jesus walks by. John looks at Jesus and declares, \u201cLook, the Lamb of God!\u201d This moment is profound. It\u2019s not just an introduction; it\u2019s a recognition of Jesus\u2019 significance, an announcement of the one who takes away the sin of the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Imagine standing there, hearing John\u2019s declaration. The two disciples are so moved that they follow Jesus, leading to the simple, yet life-changing question from Jesus: \u201cWhat do you want?\u201d They express their desire to see where he is staying, and Jesus invites them, \u201cCome, and you will see.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This invitation is extended to us every day, isn\u2019t it? Jesus invites us to see where he is working in our lives, in the quiet moments and the chaos. It\u2019s a call to relationship, to spend time with him and see the world through his eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As we move through the passage, we witness the calling of Simon Peter, Philip, and Nathanael. Each encounter is unique, yet there\u2019s a common thread \u2013 an invitation to follow and a promise of transformation. Simon becomes Peter, the rock. Philip immediately follows Jesus and brings Nathanael, who skeptically asks, \u201cCan anything good come from Nazareth?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jesus sees Nathanael and speaks to his heart, revealing his divine knowledge and presence in Nathanael\u2019s life before they even met. This encounter transforms skepticism into faith, as Nathanael confesses, \u201cRabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the king of Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, what does this mean for us, walking through the hustle and bustle of the 21st century? It speaks to the heart of being seen, known, and called by God. It\u2019s about moving beyond our initial skepticism or indifference to recognize the presence of the divine in our lives. Each day, we are invited to follow, to be transformed, and to see the greater things God has in store for us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Gracious God, like the first disciples, we hear your call in the midst of our lives. Sometimes we\u2019re unsure of where you\u2019re leading us, and often, we\u2019re hesitant to step out of our comfort zones. But we ask for the courage to say, \u201cYes,\u201d to your invitation to \u201cCome and see.\u201d Help us to see your hand at work in our lives, to recognize your presence in the mundane and the magnificent.
